With two major storms in a week -- a thunderstorm a few days before Isaias brought a tornado to Sharon -- Silver Lake was indeed lucky to get by with no major damage to buildings and grounds. Like our neighbors around the state, we had our share of fallen branches and trees to contend with. A tree uprooted during the hurricane blocks the path to the Hubbell Chapel. In some ways, I felt more connected to our campers and their families during this At Home summer than I usually do, even though I never saw any of them in person. A Silver Lake At Home Cabin Group. During a traditional in-person summer program, I do a lot of delegating. I work with the deans, who work with the counselors and the campers. I work with the staff team coordinators, who then work with their staff members. When things are going well, I don’t get to spend a lot of time with campers ...

The Silver Lake At Home summer programs concluded on Saturday, August 1 with the Super Mega Jumbo Praise Saturday End of Summer Celebration Campfire. Streamed live to the Silver Lake Conference Center Facebook page, it was just under an hour of songs, stories, scripture, sharing and celebration.

I am really excited for two Silver Lake At Home programs we are offering for high schoolers this summer, Virtual JuST Camp and Virtual Reel to Real. Based on our survey results, it's clear that high schoolers are less interested in attending virtual camp than younger children. However, it's also clear that high schoolers care deeply about justice issues, connecting their faith to action, and creating community with peers.
