Dates: 11/6/2017 - 11/10/2017
Join us for Consult XXI Monday, November 6 through Friday, November 10 as we are reminded and explore “Be Not Afraid for I am With You." We will gather at Silver Lake Conference Center (Sharon, CT) as colleagues and partners in Outdoor Ministries. Consult is a bi-annual gathering of camp directors, board members and chairs, site supporters, and advocates for Outdoor Ministries, especially within the UCC. We will explore what it means to “Be Not Afraid for I am With You”, when the “I” is God, Jesus, self, and partners we may work with at camp.
Outdoor Ministries continues to evolve and change, at times creating distress and a mentality of scarcity in our settings. Culturally and politically, fear mongering leaves us with a greater need for the sacred spaces we steward and tend, to build communities, to break bread together, to create safe spaces for those who live in fear. Through our time together, we will gather each morning and evening to worship together. During our mornings we will participate in three interactive workshops, each focusing on a different justice issue that impacts our ministries. Part training, part conversation, we will gather with experts on Racial Justice, Environmental Justice, and LGBTQ Justice, and the implications of that justice work in and for Outdoor Ministries.
Rev. John Dorhauer, the President and General Minister of the UCC will be joining us for two days of Consult. Rev. Dorhauer will offer us a keynote, as well as an opportunity to have a campfire chat Q&A time. This will be a wonderful time to celebrate the rich impact Outdoor Ministries has for local churches and the wider church, as well as have conversation regarding the future of the UCC.
One of the best parts of Consult can be connecting with others who are passionately invested in Outdoor Ministries. Informally over meals and through crafted conversation times, there will be plenty of opportunity to share best practices, stories, and moments of understanding. One off-site afternoon expedition will offer a chance to visit another camp, go for a hike, visit a charming New England town, or go for a wine tour. Evening social times will bring our full days to an end.
The cost is a mere $400 per person. The planning team will be offering a special day rate for board members, conference ministers, etc who can come for a day.
Registration details will be coming soon! We will see you in November at Silver Lake!
